CONVICTS ESCAPE.
BATTLE WITH TROOPS. Received October 30, 11.10 a.m. HELSINGFORS, Oct. 29. A furious battle followed the escape of a train load of convicts at Vologda, en route to the Archangel timber camps. The occupants of a wagon broke loose on arrival at a station and overpowered and disarmed the guards and liberated their fellow prisoners. They set fire to the local police station and massacred the inmates. Troops hastened from the town and stormed the station buildings, where a fierce engagement occurred. Hundreds were killed and wounded on both sides and many convicts fled to the forests, where the soldiers are pursuing them.
