LINTON
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, Oct. 28. A concert and dance, conducted by the Basketball Club, was hold in the Linton Hall on AVodnesday evening, proving a most successful function both socially and financially. The' varied concert programme was heartily enjoyed by the largo audience. Items were contributed by the following : Action song by the Linton School children, entitiled “The Tin Pan Parade”; recitation, Master Billy Hampson; song, Aliss AVinnifred Terry; recitation, Miss June Copeland; song, Aliss R. Tucker; tap dance, Aliss Alma Wilde, a pupil of Miss V. Olliver, Palmerston North; community sing, conducted by Mr A. McKegg, accompanied by Air AlcLauchlin; playettc, “Father Christmas,” school children. After a short interval tho basketball girls staged the play “Archibald”; those taking part wore Alisscs B. Hampson, N. Lynch, E. Cun-in, N. Terry, L. Rix, B. Currin, P. Terry, N. Carr and Master Ray Gooch as Archibald; song, Aliss D. Lister; dance, Miss B. Muir; recitation, Aliss Elsa Grotton. A community sing ended the programme. At the conclusion of the concert tho announcer, Mr T. AA’alkcr,, thanked all those who contributed items to tho programme, also tho audience for their attendance. Tho members of the Basketball Club then assembled on the stage and Aliss E. Currin, captain, in a neat little speech asked Aliss Blake to accept a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates in appreciation of the services she had rendered the club at all times. “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was sung and three cheers followed. Miss Blake suitably replied. A delightful supper was then handed round and tho hall was cleared for dancing. Alusic was supplied by Mrs Alcrriman (piano), Air L. AVilson (violin), Air J. Collis (cornet), Air G. Alerriman (drums). Tho winners of tho Alonte Carlo waltz were Air T. Alo.ves and Aliss Rita Davies. The duties of AI.C. were capably carried out by Mr O. Davies. Dancing continued until an early hour. Aliss Ar. Blake left for AVellington on Friday afternoon to spend the week-end. Friends of Airs J. Lynch will bo sorry to hear that she is in a private hospital and wish her a speedy recovery. Tho weekly shoot of the Linton Rifle Club was held on Tuesday evening. The following scores were recorded: AI. Rix, 100—40—140; H. Mcßrearty, 99-40-139; F. Haley, 98-39-137; 0. Batchelar, 9740—137; R. Craw, 97- 33 —136; C. Pearson, 98—38—136; L. AVilson. 94—40—134; Al. Craw, 93—39—132; R. Batchelar, 97—35 132. Two teams competed in tho five-aside miniature rifle shooting tourney at Longburn on Thursday evening. Two delegates of tho Linton Women’s Institute attended the half-yearly council meeting of tho Northern AA 7 ellington Federation of AVomcn’s Institucs held at Pahiatua on Thursday.
