(From. Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Oct. 28. There was a good run of whitebait in the Alanawatu River on Friday and Saturday last. Some good catches were made. The death took place at Dunedin on Thursday last of an old settler in the person of Airs Alary Mcßride, relict of the late Mr James Mcßride and mother af Mrs W. R. McKenzie, of Foxton. The late Air and Airs Mcßride arrived in tho Dominion from Scotland in 1866. and settled in Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin. Mrs AlcKcnzie is at present in Dunedin. At a meeting of the management committee of the Bowling Club a motion was carried dealing with the Nyc Ferns trophies. It was resolved that at the commencement of each bowling season two rinks be drawn from those in attendance at 2 p.m. who will play off the decide who shall become the holders of the trophies. The rules governing subsequent play will be those in force during last season and contained in the challenge book. A letter was received from the centre asking for the club’s decision in regard to a number of suggested regulations dealing with sizes and weights of bowls. It was resolved that tho centre be advised that Foxton Club is against any alteration in the present regulations, and suggesting thta those in authority concentrate on having all sots of bowls made to draw tlie same green. At the monthly meeting of the Combined Band of Hope the following children contributed items: —Songs, Murray Thomas, Robin Mason, and Bobbie Fraser; recitations, Nancy Murray, Joan Frcyer, Gene Fraser, Beverly Barron, AJarjoric Walker, Joyce Clark, Jean Reid Mary Frcyer, Winnie Murray, John Frcyer, ’Tommy Thomson, Robin Alason, Murray Thomas, Bobbie Fraser, Horace Reid, and Freddie The Nga Kotiro Club (Methodist and Presbtycrian Bible class girls), formed early in the year, hold last Friday mglit its first concert in the Alcthodist Schoolroom lor the purpose of raising funds for purchasing material for its social service work to be carried on next year. Tho programme was well received by .an appreciative audience. Aliss F. Wright played the accompaniments. Misses W. Alairs and A 1 Barron, in fitting speeches, made small presentations on behalf of the club girls to tho club captain, Aliss D. Pillar, and to Mi«s F. Wright, who had been in charge of the musical side of the programmo.
