“A COUNTRY GIRL.”

The production of “A Country Girl” by the Palmerston. North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society commences at tho Opera House to-morrow night , and continues until Saturday next when the final performance takes place. Several well and favourably known' and experienced local amateurs are taking part in this delightful musical play which was attempted by tho society some years ago. Miss Naomi Whalley, who took the part of Nan, the villago girl, will again portray this character, whilst Mr Fred Cousins will revive the part of the Rajah of Bhong. An unusually large chorus takes part in this year’s production, thcro being over 100 performers. The ballet work is up to tho usual standard set by the producer, Mrs J. Hulmc (Miss Eva Moore) and novel lighting effects are being introduced to improve the displays. Palmerston North mav well bo proud of the talent available here. The singing of Miss Whalley, ■ Mrs Brian Simpson and Miss Vonnc Lueena, the charm and vivacity of Miss _ Edna Boon, and the high standard of acting of Messrs Harry Palmer (Barry), Bert, Eising (Sir Joseph Verity), and Fred Cousins (Rajah) make the. production of “A Country Girl” one of the finest amateur shows in Now Zealand. No expense has been spared by the society to make the staging and scenery quite up to the standard of professional shows. It has been well described as being “too good to miss.” Popular prices are being charged and reserves may be made at the Central Booking Office, Broadway Avenue.
