OBITUARY

AIR C. E. ROBINSON. Residents of Foxton and district will regret to learn of the death of one of its oldest and most highly respected residents, in the person of Air Charles Edward Robinson, who passed away at his residence, “Claremont, Lady’s Mile, on Saturday, after a lingering illness. Air Robinson, who was 66 years of ago, and was wellknown throughout the Alanawatu district, was a member of a pioneering family of farmers, being the seventh son of the late Captain Francis Robinson, who was prominently connected with the early settlement of the Foxton district. Born at “Herrington,” Foxton, in 1867, Air Robinson received lvis early education at the Foxton Public School and subsequently at Wellington College. As a young man he was a keen and enthusiastic polo player and was a prominent footballer. Always keenly interested in horse racing he at one time owned several horses which he raced, and on occasions even himself rode on the tracks. For many years he was actively connected with the Foxton Racing Club and at the time of his death occupied the position of vice-president, being a most popular member. He was also a member of the Alanawatu (Foxton) Racecourse Trustees. Although he never took an active part in public matters, lie was always keenly interested in the affairs of the town and district and was always a generous supporter of any deserving cause. In 1895 Air Robinson married Clara Ellen, seventh daughter of the late Air and Airs Charles Henry Symons, ot Foxton. His widow is left to share her loss with her three sons, Messrs Charles Cecil, Edward Herston and Maurice Frederick, all of Foxton. Deceased is survived by one brother, Air J. W. Robinson, of Foxton, and three sisters, Alesdames E. S. Tliynne ana W. Robinson, of Foxton, and Hadfield, of Wanganui. The funeral took place this afternoon, leaving his late residence for All Saints’ Church and thence to the Foxton cemetery.
