ATTACKED IN STREET.
WOMAN AT WHANGAREI
MAN SNATCHES HANDBAG
WHANGAREI. Sept. 24
An attack upon a young woman was made in Whangarei about eight o’clock last evening. Mrs Iris Snow, wife of Mr A. N. H. Snow, of Powliiri Avenue, Whangarei, was wheeling a perambulator containing her two children along Wrack Street, when she heard a man’s footsteps behind her. The street at this point was dark, but not being of a nervous disposition, Mrs Snow did not become alarmed. The man, however, caught her from behind and knocked her down. The man then snatched Mrs Snow’s handbag, which was in the perambulator, but, finding no money, lie discarded it near by.
Residents in the street were attracted by the screams of Mrs Snow, and her children, and came to their assistance. The man by this time bad disapi>eared in the direction of the railway line. Mrs Snow received bruises on the face and her lips were cut. The police were informed, but so far no trace of the man has been found.
