PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Sept. 25. A largo number of residents attended the funeral of rhe late Ml- Harry Pcarccy, which took place on Saturday afternoon. Passing through the town tho cortege was preceded, on foot, by members of the Municipal Fire Brigade and Court Pahiatua, A.O.F. Representatives of other organisations to which, the deceased gentleman had belonged, including the Bowling and Cricket Clubs, were also present, in addition to tho staff of the Pahiatua railway station. Rev. W. B. Pickering conducted the service at the residence and also at the graveside, while tho Foresters’ ritual in each instance was read by P.C.R. Bro. L. Parker. Tho pallbearers were members of tho Foresters’ Order comprising Bros. C. L. Hewitt, P. M. Wabh, FI. Butcher, 11. Thomson, E. Foley and O. Johnson. At the conclusion of the committal, Rev. W. B. Pickering paid a glowing personal tribute to tho deceased. There were numerous handsome floral emblems, including wreaths from Court Pahiatua, A O F., the Municipal Fire Brigade, Pahiatua Cricket Club, Bowling Club and the railway staff. The men’s golf team went to Danncvirke during tho week-end to play a match there and mot defeat, the results being:— Singles: Dannevirke 8 wins; Pahiatua 4q2 halved. Fourbali: Dannevirke 5; Pahiatua 1; 1 halved. Tho weather was perfect and the visitors were entertained in a most hospitable maimer.. A match was played over tho week-end on tho Pahiatua links, between the local ladies, and a team of equal handicap from Dannevirke. 3 he match resulted in a win for Pahiatua by 12 to 4 in tho singles, and 6£ to Is in tho fourball. . , Mr and Mrs T. liodgins have returned from a holiday spent, at Day’s Bay. Miss Gregory and Aliss Wliittakcr, Wakeman Street, have returned home from Wellington where they spent a week’s holiday. Miss Whitmqre, Tararua Street, returned home to-day from a visit to Waikanae. >
