THE IRON CROSS.

HOW IT WAS WON BY HITLER. BLUFFING THE FRENCH. A Berlin newspaper reveals how Herr Hitler won his Iron Cross. It was during the autumn campaign near La Bassee and Arras in 19f5. Hitler and another soldier named Weiss were on patrol duty, and were endeavouring to find' out where the nearest French troops were. They crept into an apparently deserted village. Suddenly French voices were heard coming from tho cellar of a wrecked house. Hitler opened the door, called out in broken French that a German company was behind him, and summoned the French soldiers to surrender. Then, says the paper, giving commands to the non-existent company, he completely bluffed the French, and a lieutenant and 20 soldiers emerged with hands up and surrendered to Hitler and his companion, who escorted them to their Bavarian regiment.
