RISE IN WOOL.

VALUE TO AUSTRALIA. AUCKLAND, Sept. 24. The value of the recent rise in wool prices to Australia has been estimated at £12,000,000, according to Mr Bernard Grennan, of J. B. Were and Son, a Melbourne stockbroking firm, who arrived at Auckland by the Monetrey on a short visit to New Zealand. “Conditions in Australia have been showing a gradual and progressive improvement during the last year,” Mr Grennan said, “but the opening of the wool sales lias generated a feeling of genuine optimism. Prices have risen !>y 50 per cent., and, with the spirited competition that is in evidence, there is no reason why they should not be maintained at that level.” Mr Grennan said that, judging by the latest London sales, New Zealand crossbred would hardly appreciate in value to the same extent as Australian Merino. Nevertheless, there was a rise in price which would doubtless be welcome to the Dominion.
