(From Our Own Correspondent.) SAND ON, Sept. 24. The funeral of the late Mr \Y. J. Peacock was held on Friday afternoon. There was a good number present and the numerous floral tributes showed the esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. A. C. Lane, of Bulls, and the pall-bearers were Messrs A. li. Drew', J. Currie, F. \V. Tostevin, C. C. Price, \V. A. Lumsden and J. Koster. A large attendance greeted the opening of the community sing organised by Mr J. Currie in aid of the school funds and the organiser is to be congratulated on the success of the effort. In addition to the old favourites, new’ numbers were heartily sung. A novel change was provided by war-time songs being sung together by different sections of the audience. In addition to the community sings items were rendered as follow: —Vocal solo, Mrs W. E. Pearce; song and dance, nine school girls: song and dance, Doug Sanson’s Community Choir; vocal duct, Misses Henson and Fagan. “The Dancing Horse,” in which Messrs J. Currie and T. Murphy were the principals with Gordon Currie (jockey) and Bruce Mitchell (trainer) was the cause of much merriment. Two clover acts were put on by Mr Lin Richards. In “Tho Challenge Cup Escape Act,” after being tied up with a long rope, he released himself in a little over a minute, and in ‘‘The Indian Faith Act,” ho danced on broken glass and washed his hands with the broken glass With no injurious effect. The accompanists for the various items were Mrs Davey, Mrs Butler, Miss Fagan and Mr G. Drew. At the close, Mr E. J. Bowater returned thanks on behalf of the School Committee to all who had assisted in making the evening a success, especially Mr J. Currie for his efforts in connection with the community sings.
