B CLASS STATIONS

LISTENERS TAKING ACTION. There was general regret among listeners-in around the Manawatu when it was ascertained that an extension of broadcasting time had been refused station 2ZO, Palmerston North, last, Tuesday, and many dance functions had to ho postponed as a result. The matter came up for discussion at a representative meeting of tlie executive of the Manawatu and Districts Listeners’ Association on Friday niglrt. The chairman (Air G. Houston) exp'ained the steps which had been taken to have the position remedied, the local radio inspector, the P. and T. Department and the member for the district (Mr J. A. Nash) having been approached in turn. After communicating with both the Broadcasting Board and the Minister for Post and Telegraphs it had been ascertained that no extension of time was being given to private B class stations. The position was considered to he unsatisfactory and the following motion was carried:—“That the Federation of Listeners he written to, asking that immediate action on their part he taken and that a petition signed by all listeners throughout New Zealand be presented to the House of Representatives in an emphatic protest against the unfair and unjust actions that are being taken by the department. As listeners are paying a license fee of 30s annually, they have a just right to say what is going to be done.”
