WANGANUI MEETING.

BED MANFRED WINS GUINEAS. FIJI’S SURPRISE IN HIGGIE HANDICAP. SUPERIOR BEST TWO-YEAR-OLD. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring mect- \ ing was concluded on Saturday when the .racing was again interesting. Principal interest centred in the Debutante Stakes for the two-year-olds and the Wanganui Guineas. The Taranakiowned and trained filiy Superior proved too good for her opponents in the two-year-old race, and Red Manfred had a hollow victory over four others in the Guineas. Fiji brought off a surprise in the Higgie Handicap, _ and in tile open sprint a fresh horse in Pomp narrowly beat, his stablemato Midinette. The totalisator handled £9277 10s, compared with £9388 on the second day last year, a decrease of £llO 10s. The total for the meeting was £15,531, against £16,234 30s last year, a decrease of £703 10s. RACING IN DETAIL. Tantara began best, but ' was quickly supplanted as leader by Pin I Money, Capital and Pomard, while Gay | Blonde, who drew the rails, dwelt on the mark. Pin Money, Capital and Pomard I led round the turn from Tantara, Superior and Gay Blonde, Superior had run up to the front with the leaders entering the
