GOLF TOURNAMENT.

LEGAL PROFESSION AT PLAY. THIS MORNING’S ROUNDS. Open to any occupant of tlie Bench, or any qualified K.C., barrister or solicitor belonging to an affiliated club, the second annual “Devil’s Own’ golf tournament began at the Hokowlntu links tliis morning, when about forty members of the legal profession, including visitors from Wanganui and Napier, engaged in play. The tlireeday fixture is stated to be “for their relaxation and rejuvenation.” The management committee controlling the tournament are Messrs L. M. Abraham, H. R. Cooper, W. L. Fitzlierbert, J. A. Grant, B. J. Jacobs, A. M. Ongley, P. W. Dorrington (Dannevirke), J. Graham (Feeding) and A. E. Lawry (Napier). The hon. secretary is Mr G. I. McGregor. This morning the Guarantee Fund Handicap (18 holes stroke) was played, and this afternoon the Cy-Pres Handicap was iri progress under similar conditions. The best sixteen net scores in these two rounds qualify to play for the “Devil’s Own” Cup on handicap, and the next sixteen will play off for the Mortgagors Relief Stakes. Both the major competitions will be finalised on Monday afternoon. There are also two bogey handicaps set down for play. On Monday morning an 18-hole distress foursome medal handicap will be played, and a four-ball No. 5 Scheme bogey handicap in the afternoon. Though the weather was boisterous this morning, the course was in very good order, except that it was a trifle heavy. Scores in. the Guarantee 1’ una handicap up to 1 p.m. to-day were as follow: —L.
