TROUBLE IN THE RAND.
MINERS’ REQUESTS REFUSED. Received September 22, 9.50 a.m. CAPETOWN, Sept. 21. Sections of miners at Langlaagte and Simmer Jack, in the central area of the Rand, struck because their requests for special consideration on certain jobs were not acceded to. Since the abandonment of the gold standard the miners demanded that they participate in the premium, which was refused on the ground that the premium was devoted to the development of low grade ore and increased employment. The strike is not recognised by the union, but is regarded as dangerous.
