CLEARANCE OF SILT.
TIRITEA DAM OPERATIONS. FLOOD STOPS WORK. Flood waters from the heavy rains this week increased the volume of the Tiritea Stream, last evening, to such an extent that operations in the clearance of silt from the reservoir had to be suspended. Good progress had been made since the main dam was emptied a fortnight ago, hut a heavy fresh began to develop in the stream yesterday and it was found that the outlet pipe could not cope with the flow. Consequently the sluice valve was closed at 8 p.m. and the reservoir began to fill rapidly. Meanwhile activities will probably be suspended for a week.
