MAIN TRUNK MISHAP

WAGONS DERAILED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 22. Seven of 93 wagons being .liaulecl from Frankton to Auckland were derailed at midnight about two miles south of Rangiriri. Six trucks were badly smashed and nine calves wero killed. *■ A repair gang quickly restored the track and traffic was normal before noon, although the expresses from Wellington, and two goods trains, were delayed. . The driver’s intimation of the mishap was a slight jolt, which gave him the impression that a hose bag had broken and brought the brakes into commission. He stopped tire train and walked along the line of wagons and found the cattle strewn about the line and the trucks smashed. Relief workers nearby assisted in the task of clearing the line and another goods train which arrived hauled the 87 remaining wagons back to Ohinewai. The damage to the track was not extensive. The express from Wellington was delayed If hours and the Limited 45 minutes.
