GARRISON BAND.
CARNIVAL COMMITTEE MEETS. Arrangements for the forthcoming effort were finalised at a special meeting of the Garrison Band Carnival Committee on Thursday, when Colonel J. H. Whyte, presided over a large attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Evans, Barlow and Wollerman and Mr W. R. Kells. It was decided to conduct a cooking competition which Mrs W. J. Phillips will be asked to judge, and also to ask Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., and A. E. Mansford officially to open the carnival. Mrs S. Trask, who was appointed convener of the ladies’ committees, reported that numerous donations had been received for the stalls and competitions. Reports were made that ballroom dancing would be held every evening of the carnival, the programme of which would .include Irish dancing, presentations by the pupils of Miss Gwen Gibbs, and a physical drill display by the Boys’ High School. The carnival would conclude with a coster evening.
