Gallant Fox took charge going along the back and led round the top, followed by Rational 11., Spoon and Nightly. Gallant Fox was in front till a few yards from home, when Nightly, who was pulled from the rails in the straight, came very fast and won by a head. An incident in connection with the de-. cision of a race at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting to-day resulted in the suspension of a jockey. C. Eastwood, rider of Royal Amphora, was suspended till October 1 for striking G. Humphries, rider of Manetho, with his whip after passing the post in the Raukapuka Handicap. Humphries was cautioned for coming in too quickly at the far turn and causing Dracula to drop back. Manetho won the event and Royal Amphora was second. HAWKESBURY MEETING. INFLATION ENGAGED. CHATHAM UNDER GUARD. SYDNEY, Sent. 21. The only event of interest to New Zealand at next Saturday’s Ilawkesbury races is the Rowley Mile, for which there are four acceptors, two of whom aro Inflation 9.6 and Bayaore 8.13. Waltzing Lily ran so badly at Victoria Park that she has been scratched for all Sydney engagements, and is returning to Melbourne for rich engagements ahead. The courses at Sydney are -the reverse way to those on which she is accustomed to perform so well. Strict precautions are being taken against harm to the Epsom candidate Chatham.
