ILLEGAL LOTTERY.
FINES IMPOSED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. In connection With the disposal of a car by lottery by the Tramway Entertainers in aid of the St. John Ambulance Association, Alexander George Blight was to-day fined £lO, Richard John Culver was convicted and discharged and, for selling tickets, John William Roworth and Charles Henry Wilson were fined 30s each. Defendants all pleaded guilty, but it was explained that it was not till after the scheme had been publicly launched that the illegality of the system was declared to the promoters and they had no option but to keep faith with the public.
