OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, Sopt.'2l. There was ’a fair attendance at a meeting of tho abovo association in rho Public ! Hall on Thursday night. Mr J. Crouchcr was in tho chair. A motion of sympathy was carried with the relatives of the late Miss Crouchcr, tho late Mr Cossum, the lato Mr Matthews and the late Mr Peacock. MryO. Ellerm said that the association had sustained a groat loss in the passing of these residents, j WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. There was a fair attendance at. tho monthly meeting held _on Tuesday night, ■ and a very enjoyable time was spent. Mrs lA. K. Drew presided. A motion of symj pathy was passed with Mrs Cossum, _ Misses V. and V. Matthews and tho relatives of I the lato Miss Crouchcr. A letter was roil coivcd from Mrs Cossum tendering her j resignation as vice-president and oxprrss- , ing appreciation of her pleasant associations 1 with the institute. Correspondence was re- | ccived regarding the group meeting at Roii- ! gotea and quite a number hope to attend. Mrs Drew and Miss A. E. Fagan wero ' appointed delegates to attend the annual | federation meeting. Members were asked to contribute one penny to tho Governor-Gen-eral’s Relief Fund. The Sunshine ConunitI toe reported on several visits paid and letters written to sick friends. The committee for the month’s work were Mcsdames Tostcvin, Adams, Williams and Miss P. Williams. The representatives appointed to tho jubilco committee wc-ro Mcsdames I, Williams, C. Masters, E. Green and . J. Bowatcr. Tho main attraction for the evening was a lecture on gardening by Miss J. Bradficlcl, of Palmerston North, which was very interesting. Miss Bradficld was accorded a vote of thanks. Miss Pcnkoth, a visitor from Palmerston North, sang two songs to a delighted audience. The awards for tho two competitions were: Three best savouries, Miss P. Williams 1, Mrs Masters 2, Mrs Godye 3. Best dressed doll, Miss L. Godye, Miss P. Williams, and Miss A. Bowatcr, equal, 1. The hostesses for tho evening were Mcsdames C. Masters, E. Green, Cork and G. Francis and Miss U. Francis. LATE MR W. J. PEACOCK. Tho death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital early on Wednesday morning of Mr W. J. Peacock, of Sanson. Tho deceased gentleman had been in indifferent health for some time and had been a patient in hospital on three or four occasions in tho last few months, returning there a few weeks ago. The lato Mr Peacock, was born in Scotland in 1860 and came to New Zealand 20 years ago settling in Sanson, where ho had lived over since with the exception of a short, period spent with his daughter at Buiinythorpo. Of a genial disposition, ho was very popular in the tiis* trict and always ready to help with any movement for its welfare. He was a member of tho Sanson Sports Club and other bodies; vice-president of the Cricket Club; and took a live interest in school affairs. There arc left to mourn their loss three daughters, Mrs Marsh (Auckland), Mrs Burridge (Adamstown, New South Wales), Mrs R. Churchor (Waituna), and two sons, Walter and Fred, both of Takaka One son, Edward, made tho supremo sacrifice in tho Great War.
