WHEAT HARVESTS.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE’S MEETING. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 19. At the first meeting of the Wheat Advisory Committee M. Devenat (France) explained that two successive bumper crops had resulted in France’s exportable surplus now being about 13,600,000 quintals, of wEicli it was hoped to dispose of 9,000,000 of lower quality by feeding animals, while the decreased quantity of flour extracted would account for another 2,000,000, leaving only 2,000,000 exportable, which should” have no appreciable effect upon world prices. Herr Duering (Germany) said that Germany similarly had a bumper harvest, which since July had exceeded the estimate by 12,060,000 quintals. The Government was reducing the area sown in both wheat and rye. Recent exports of wheat from Germany would be offset by. imports of wheat during the present cereal year, and the exports of rye would be offset by subsequent imports of maize and barley. Furthermore, the Government believed that it could materially increase the consumption of wheat in Germany by reducing unemployment. The committee adjourned until November 27. Meetings between Russia and the four chief exporting countries (Canada, Argentina, Australia and the United States) will be held next week to consider wheat quotas. GRAIN IN GERMANY. FAIR PRICE URGED. BERLIN, Sept. 19. Herr Darre, Minister of Agriculture, has assumed a dictatorship of grain. production. He forbids all speculative fixture dealings in grain and establishes fixed prices for wheat and rye. He states that any infringements” of the order to restrict production will be severely punished. Farmers are being warned that production during the ‘present autumn should not exceed that of the autumn of 1932. “Farmers should be firmly established on the land and charge a fair price. Their duty is to their race.”
