Rev. L. G. Whitehead, of St. David’s Church, Terrace End, who lias accepted a call to Southland, left for Wellington in company with Mrs Whitehead, by car this morning. Air Frederick Moore, examiner for tlie Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, is to visit Palmerston North on October 12 to conduct the board’s local examinations in music. The board of directors of the United Press Association has promoted Air T. M. Hinkley, a member of the association’s staff and its Parliamentary reporter, to the vacancy caused bv the retirement of Air T. Lindsay Buick. The staff vacancy will be filled by another appointment early in October. The Public Service Commissioner announced to-day the appointment of Mr William Eric Arnold, at present deputy-Commissioner and secretary, to succeed Mr A. E. Allison as Commissioner of the Government Life Insurance Office. Air J. W. AlacDonald, chief clerk, succeeds Air Arnold as deputy-Commissioner and secretary. Alany organisations and activities of the Presbyterian Church were represented at a large public gathering in St. John’s Church, Wellington, last night, when the jubilee of Rev. James Gibb, D.D., former, minister of St. John’s, was commemorated. Dr. Gibb was made the subject of a number of coniplimentarv addresses, while letters of congratulation and praise for his long ministerial and beneficient activities were received from all over New Zealand.
