HONOUR TO WHOM HONOUR IS DUE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In the grateful recognition of many good qualities and great services rendered to this community by Jas. A. Nash, M.P., at the Opera House meeting, many were surprised that two of the’ most outstanding were forgotten—one being his studious avoidance of those petty frictions and personal motives which mar the success of most institutions, political, commercial . recreative, theological, or social—things which prevent many good men from entering public life in any form. The other big thing was the “Final Battle” in anticipation of Armistice Day where Jim Nash was “GovernorGeneral” and Percy McHardy “Com-mander-in-Chief.” That was an outstanding feat by ten organised armies acting as one for the cause of humanity. £32,700 was raised in 13 weeks, and though over £1,500 a year has been paid ever since to our boys and their dependants, the Patriotic Society, of which Mr Nash was the first chairman, is perhaps in a sounder position than any other in the Dominion.—Sincerely, THE AVAR MINISTER.
