BROADCASTING.

(To the Editor.) , Sir, —Would you kindly permit me space in your paper to express my opinion as a listener of the attitude of the authorities in refusing Station 2ZO permission to continue their broadcast of the old time dance music last evening beyond 10 p.m. Apparently the authorities frown on any programme that may possibly interest the listeners, and are distinctly averse to any B class station endeavouring to put over the air a programme which can be enjoyed by the great majority of those who listen in. One might ask these authorities what the radio owner pays his tax of £1 10s per year for. It is certainly not for the type of programme we have forced upon us by the YA stations, and if we depended upon these stations for our entertainment I am afraid that radio enthusiasts would return to the gramaplione. It is only the fact that occasionally wo are privileged to listen to a programme from a B station which can be enjoyed, and we can tune in to the Australian stations, where wo can pbtain a programme worth listening to, that makes- it worth while

owning a radio. It is therefore very disappointing to find that when wo have a programme such as was broadcast last evening permission cannot be obtained to continue this for an extra period of two hours. From reports received by the station and announced during tne programme it is quite evident that the broadcast was enjoyed by all, and it is to be hoped that 2ZO may continue to give listeners programmes we can enjoy. It is also to be hoped that the' authorities will realise that this is the class of programme we require, and as the YA stations appear to be unable to givo what the majority of listeners desire, they at least will allow a station that is prepared to do so, a reasonable opportunity to broadcast.—l am, etc., LISTENER. Palmerston North, September 20, 1933.
