ANOTHER REPLY TO “CITIZEN.”

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reply to “Citizen’s” letter appearing in your issue of Monday, it appears the writer certainly has taken a “passing" interest in the local relief workers. Yes, “passed” them in tile street and looked down on them as if they were dirt, and as if they had no right in this world of British justice. I would like “Citizen” to know that they are human beings like himself, with a right to every privilege. that he enjoys. He certainly has not lived as a relief worker is compelled to live, otherwise he would have used a little discretion before writing such a ridiculous letter. He states the average relief worker gets 26s 3d per week. Now, take £1 for rent, (If you can get me a cheaper place that you yourself would not be ashamed to take your wife into, just let, me know and' I will willingly take it myself. My address will be at the “Standard” office for the asking.) That gets rid of £l, leaving 6s 3d to be disposed of. If you do not know anything about domestic matters, just ask your wife and she. will let you know just how far 6s 3d will go. Better still, just take a bach and try it yourself for a week; that is, of course, with the aid of the “rations.” I’m afraid “Citizen” would be a very sorry mfin at the end of the week. As regards the boots, tho local relief workers have only received one pair of boots in four years, but, as he says, they are walking on “air” so they could not be expected to wear any more than one pair out. In conclusion, 1 wish to state that I am not a relief worker, but one does not know from one day to another just when one will become one.—l am, etc., A REAL CITIZEN.
