WORLD CONFERENCE.
CHANCES OF RESUMPTION. LONDON, Sept. 19. There is considerable speculation regarding Mr MacDonald’s World Conference moves. The Morning Post says it is believed in well-informed quarters that the imminence of developments in the United States lias been discussed both with British economists and League officials. It is realised that should the United States embark on an inflationary programme disturbance would be . caused in the markets of the world which possibly would demand drastic action. Mr MacDonald might then, as president of the World Economic Conference, deem it advisable to put some part of the conference machinery into operation in an effort to cope with the situation. The Financial Times says that if the dollar maintains a degree of stability at or around the present level sterling will also be maintained near its present figure. It is not inconceivable that gold countries may have to consider a change in policy. Should a run on the Dutch guilder develop, then the position of the franc may be threatened.
