THE DOLLAR RATE. IRREGULAR EXCHANGE POSI. TION. (British Official Wireless.) Received September 20, 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 19. The price of gold in London was unchanged to-day, remaining at £6 11s 9d per fine ounce. Following yesterday’s slump in the dollar, which, after touching the 4.82 rate on New York, closed at 4.79 J, conditions on the, foreign exchange market were less irregular this morning. The dollar opened at 4.78 and was later quoted at 4.78}. Pending clearer foreign exchange, other business in the stock market was of modest dimensions to-day. British funds were solid, war loan being quoted at £IOO 12s 6d. SLUMP IN DOLLAR. NEW LOW LEVEL. NEW YORK, Sept. 18. The sharpest slump in the gold price of the dollar on the current movement sent it tumbling to-day below 65 cents for the first time since 1865. It reached 64.9 cents, and then rallied above 65 cents.
