SHOOTING AT KIRWEE.
MAN’S PLUCKY ACTIONS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 20. In connection with the shooting incident a.t Kirwee (reported on page 6), it is shown that Allott Coygill Gallagher, the 19-year-old victim, had a remarkable escape from death. The bullet is embedded an inch and a half _ above the oentre of the left breast. The victim is conscious and. while in hospital has related his story to the police. Mr Gallagher was shot while pluckily grappling with a ma.n whom he found lurking in the farm buildings. He saw the man making awav with a swag and chased him, catching him. The two men struggled briefly, when the man whipped out a. firearm of some description and shot Mr Gallagher, afterwards making his escape over paddocks at the back of the farm buildings, with his swag, which consisted of a number of articles, including the distributor from the Gallaher family car and the magneto from the tractor, which was drop, ped in the man’s haste.
