TRIBUTE TO PREMIER.
BEARING GREAT BURDEN. WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. “Never in the history of New Zealand has its Prime Minister borne a greater burden than fell upon the shoulders of Mr Forbes from the day he assumed office,” said the Mayor, Mr T. C. A. liislop, in the course of his address of welcome at the civic reception to the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Hon. It. Masters, and members of the Now Zealand delegation on their return -from the World Economic Conference, at the Town Hall last evening. “Subjected to intense criticism growing as tho general depression intensified, he has never faltered in the course he has believed best for the country,” Mr Hislop said. “Shunning the role of the mere politician and searcher for popularity, he must evoke the admiration of all who admire courage, integrity and character. “You return when the auguries are better than when you left upon your mission. There is light in the sky, hope is alive, so in the near future may you lead the country to returning prosperity. In a spirit of sincere personal admiration I welcome you and your wife and Mr and Mrs Masters home again.”
