MAN FOR TRIAL.
FINGERPRINT EVIDENCE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 19. Fingerprints found on a piece of leadlight figured largely in a police case against Albert William Gauntlett, aged 25, labourer, who was charged to-day that, on or about August 23, he broke and entered a SelfHelp Store in Linwood Avenue and committed theft. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being refused in the meantime. An officer of the criminal registration branch of Wellington gave evidence’that fingerprints found on the glass were identical with those of accused which had been forwarded to him from Paparua. Hie police stated that accused, when informed that the fingerprints corresponded, declared it was a mistake, and that 'lie had never been near Linwood Avenue.
