(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Sept. 15. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Tennis Club, hold on Wednesday evening. Toll president, Mr F. Thurston, was in tho chair. The club lias a credit in the bank of £l3 9s 8d apd the president in his report referred to. the satisfactory financial position. Last year £25 was paid in reduction of the mortgage, leaving a liability of £IOO. Maintenance of the courts cost £8 10s 4d, but topdressing to two of the courts will bo required prior to the opening of the season. The membership of the club stands at 40 senior and 20 junior and tho members, especially the juniors, wero thanked for their voluntary labour iii connection with tho excavating work and erecting a manuka and board fence for shelter purposes and generally trying to improve the appearance of what was far from a beauty spot. Thanks were due to tho ladies for supplying afternoon tea, also the ladies who had taken an interest in commencing a garden. To Mr and Airs Pope tho club was indebted for permission to encroach on their property when erecting tho boundary fence. Tile election of officers resulted:—President, Air F. Thurston; vice-presidents, Alessrs J. T. Bovis, E. T. Moody, D. Edginton, and S. L. Graham; secretary and treasurer, Air R. Thwaites; committee, Airs Aloynihand, Miss Quarrio, Mrs Popo, Alessrs Allan, McKay and AlcGuckin; club captain. Air S. L. Graham; vice-captain, Mr A. Robinson; delegate to Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, Air A. Robinson; auditor. Air B. J. Braun. Tho matter of' top-dressing tho courts and having the borough water supply connrcted was left in the hands of the committoo. It was resolved to invito two leading tennis players from Wellington to visit Shannon and give an exhibition gatno. Mr E. T. Aloody, who was president for nine years, and Mrs Aloody, who had always taken a keen interest in tho welfare of the club, wore elected life members.

At Ven. Bede’s Church, Shannon, on Wednesday, September 13, the marriage was solemnised of Kathleen, oldest daughter of Airs C. C.- Butters, Tokomaru, to Herbert James, son of Air and Airs Kilmistcr, East Road, Shannon. Rev. Air Kenny was the officiating minister, and Airs J. T. Bovis presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by Air S. Pedersen (a friend of the family), was charmingly gowned in a simple frock of deep creme crope-do-chine, and wore a daintily embroidered veil hold in place with a circlet of orange blossom. She carried an exquisite bouquet made entirely of artificial flowers and maidenhair fern. Aliss Nola Butters, sister of the bride, was in attendance, wearing a dainty capod frock of pale blue crepe-de-chine, and white hat, and carried a bouquet, also of artificial flowers, beautifully made. Air J. Sullivan carried out tho duties of best man. After the ceremony a number of friends and relatives gathered at Laurvig’s Hall to do honour to tho young couple. The usual toasts were honoured in approved stylo, and Mr and Airs Kilmister later left for Wellington, the bride travelling in. a smart brown costume with accessories to tone. Tho happy couple were the recipients of many handsome gifts and carry with them the good wishes of all. The annual meeting of the Shannon Sports Club was hold on Thursday evening, there being a fair attendance. Mr A. E. Hvde was re-elected president for tho ensuing term, Air S. W. Barber vice-presi-dent, Air G. G. -Mitchell treasurer, and Mr A. G. Alason secretary. Alessrs R. R. Lind, W. Mo.vnihan and W. Radford, together with tho officers, were elected an executive committee.

The committee of the Shannon Golf Club met on Thursday evening, when it was decided to close the links on tile 23rd inst. On that day competitions will be held and tho presentation of trophies will take place.
