ROAD CYCLING

PROFESSIONAL RACE. COLLINS WINS BOUCHER, CUP. There were five starters in a 40mile road race conducted on Saturday afternoon by the Counties’ Cash Cycling Club from Terrace End to Bulls and back. The contestants met a stiff wind on the outward journey. The result was as follows: —W. Smith (28min.), 2hr. 13min. 15sec., 1; W. Rodgers (32min.) 2hr. 15min. 16sec., 2; B. Mcßrearty (24min.), 21ir. 10 min. 4secs., 3. Also started: A. Ganderton (llmin.), W. Collins (10min.). Smith won by several lengths front Rodgers, this pair riding practically all the way back together. Coming back, they passed Collins and Ganderton as the latter were still cn the outward journey, four miles from Bulls. Collins made fastest time ’n 2hrs. & min. 52sec. Mcßrearty rmle a hard race unplaced. This was the final race of the series for the Boucher Cup, which was won by W. Collins, with 10 points.. McBrearty, a new member, \as second with 9 points, Luxmore Hind with 7 and Rodgers next with 6 points. The race next Saturday will he a short event to Ashlnirst and return to prepare the riders for the 100 mile open race to be held on September 30. Riders from all over the North Island have signified their intention of competing in the Wanganui l ace and the club is to be congratulated m making an open event of tlieir ann nil 10G-mile race instead of confining -t lo club members as had lieen done in the past.

NO AMATEUR RACE,

No amateur road cycle race was held on Saturday, there being insufficient entrants to provide reasonable competition.

The Wellington provincial road cycling championship was decided at Petone on Saturday over a 100 kilometre course. It was won by F. Blacket. (Poneke) in the good time of 3hrs. 6 min. 49|secs. O. Disle.v (Port Nicholson) was runner-up and A. L. Roberts (Hutt Valley) third. A. Fade (Feilding) was also a starter.
