PILOT’S ESCAPE.
SECRET ’PLANE CRASHES. LONDON, Sept. 12. The Daily Mail says that Flight-Lieu-tenant C. S. Staniland had an amazing escape when a secret new machine got out of control. He jumped with a parachute, but was thrown back into the cockpit by the rush of wind. The machine dived a further 700 feet, when Lieutenant Staniland jumped again and landed unhurt. The aeroplane pancaked to earth two miles away and was wrecked. TRAGIC CRASH. Received September 13, 10.55 a.m. BELGRADE, Sept, 12. Piloted by Nikidin, the famous Russian war ace, an Aeroput ’plane crashed at Ljubljana, killing the pilot, mechanic and six passengers.
