WALKER BEATS VARGAPer Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 11. With a back loop slam in the fifth round, Walker incapacitated Varga in a professional wrestling match to-night. A moderate house witnessed the match.
Varga took a fall in the second round, but at all other stages Walker appeared to have the bout in hand. He trapped Varga in the fifth for a terrific slam and rendered him unconscious.
RUMBERG BEATS PEREIRA. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 11. There was plenty of action in the wrestling contest between Hal Rumberg and A 1 Pereira. Rumberg won by two falls to one. Several spectacular flying tackles roused the onlookers, and two of the falls were obtained following a series of these attacks. Rumberg gained a fall in the third round with a press after a partial slam. Pereira evened in the fifth with a press after a series of fly.ing tackles. Rumberg clinched the match in the succeeding round with a fall from a flying scissors.
AMATEURS AT WANGANUI,
AVANGANUI, Sept 1 . 11
An all-amateur wrestling tournament was staged by the Wanganui Wrestling Association on Saturday night. Some bright wrestling was featured and it was regrettable that the attendance was so meagre. Results were as follow : —P. Cowlishaw (Palmerston North) lost to C. Matson (Wanganui) by 2 falls to 1; J. Clark lost to J. Mitchell (Wanganui) by one fall to nil; G. Matson beat R. Jones (AVanganui) by one fall to nil; E. Anthony beat J. AVillacy (Wanganui) on points; Marl Heke drew with P. Gowan (AVanganui) ; H. Benton lost to Ben Bullock (Wanganui) by one fall to nil; R. Newth lost to H. Bartlett (Wanganui) by one fall to nil.
