POWER BOARD

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mana-watii-Oroua Power Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr C. G. C. Dermer presiding. Others present were Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., J. Hodgens, J. Batchelar, J. Boyce, W. P. Bickers, AV. McKay, 0. McElroy, E. 0. Bond, N. Campbell and P. G. Guy. Leave of absence was granted Mr M. A. Eliott, who is visiting Australia.

The Palmerston North City Council wrote acknowledging the receipt of resolutions concerning the hoard’s rating proposals, stating that they had been read to the council and received.

The Feilding Borough Council wrote intimating that the resolutions concerning the uniform rate had heen received, and the question of collecting it would come before the council at the next meeting. The Feilding A. and P. Association were, on the motion of Mr Nash, granted a donation of £2 2s towards their prize funds. EXTENSION OF SERVICES. “In addition to the usual number of new service lines required for new milking plants, maintenance work has been carried out at Dalrymple’s Line, Whitmore Road, Hughes’s Line, and vicinity, Himatangi, Kellow’s Line, Linton, Ashhurst, Robert’s Line, Aokautere, etc.”, stated the engineer (Mr W. A. Waters) in his monthly xeport. . The report continued: “The 400-volt lines were extended on Sanson-Foxton Line at Makowliai for a milking plant, and the crossing over the telegraph lines altered with a longer pole to decrease the span and increase the clearance. Services were re-strained in Longburn to suit altered Post and Telegraph work. The 11,000-volt lines from Bunnytliorpe to Longburn were gone over and 12 high-tension insulators replaced, many, of them obviously damaged by pea-rifle bullets. A 25 k.v.a. transformer was erected in Kellow’s Line to replace an overloaded one, while another transformer is to be erected in Colyton Road to supply a new load and re-arrange the low tension feed. A 3300-volt transformer will be erected in Millrick’s Line to supply the increased load. AVork in connection with the changeover at Corpe’s saw'inill was completed and supply given. Owing to the increase in load it has become necessary to re-arrange our existing lines in Beaconsfield Valley. The work consists of extending our 11,000-volt lines 60 chains and shifting two transformers. Nineteen steel rails -were used, but the alteration enabled us to recover 26 silver pine poles, and a considerable quantity of copper. This work is not yet completed. General maintenance work was also carried out in the Halcombe, Mt. Biggs and Aorangi areas, in addition to the usual work in the Feilding borough. “The work of connecting in Messrs Borthwick’s freezing works to the now switchboard will be completed during this month, and the change over from gas and steam to the electric drive will result in an increased load. The metering equipment is in stock and the works have laid their cables up to the transformers. One feature of the present growth of the load is the large number of radio sets being installed every month for some time past, which all have to be insjiected. The meter at the Longburn freezing works was changed to a new one with a maximum demand attachment to register the demand. It is quite likely that very shortly the bank of transformers supplying tire works will have to be duplicated for the growing load. “New consumers. —The following new consumers were given a supply during the month: Lighting and heating, 8; motors for milking, 11; ranges, 1; water heaters, 5; industrial motors (one 34 h.p.) 2; other motors (mostly i h.p. for separators), 20; additions and alterations to existing installations, 37; total, 84. Included in the additions to existing installations were four incubators of 250 watts each and two electric brooders.” FINANCIAL STATEMENT.
