CONCERT IN THE SQUARE.

Although the precincts of the Square were opened to'the high wind which was raging, yesterday afternoon there was, nevertheless, a large crowd of music lovers present when the Garrisan Band, under the conductorship of Lieutenant 0. Pike, rendered a pleasing programme. The numbers presented were as follow March, “Mesphistopheles” ; hymn, “Nearer My God To Thee” ; overture, “Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna” (J. Ord Hume); selection, “Viva Beethoven” (F. von Suppe); cornet solo, “Bravura” (J. A. Greenwood), with Bandsman G. Lester as the soloist; trombone solo, “The Joy Wheel” (E. Sutton) with Bandsman L Robert as the soloist; march “Elephant” (J. Ord Hume); the National In the evening the band rendered a programme oc music over the air, In view of the band contest in February, the. local organisation is busily engaged in practice, it being the intention to enter both an A and a B grade band.
