IMPORT PROBLEMS.
WORK FOR COMMITTEE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 8. At the request of the Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr Neville Chamberlain, the British Import Duties Revisory Committee is attending to the revision of silk and artificial silk duties while discussions between British and Japanese textile representatives are in progress. The committee, at the request of the Government, has undertaken to inquire into representations made by the Canadian Government to the effect that the preferences granted to Canada by the agreement on timber negotiated at Ottawa are likely to be frustrated by the creation and maintenance of timber prices through the State action of the U.S.S.R. Canadian timber interests have formulated a detailed statement of their case which has been forwarded to the Advisory Committee.
