SHIPPING SUBSIDIES.
ITALIAN VESSELS. ''eceived September 11, 8.10 a.m. CAPETOWN. Sept. ,8. The Government is subsidising Italian shipping for five years to the extent of £150,000 per annum to carry Union exports to east and west ports and Genoa, from which distribution to the European centres will be made. The Italian Government is subsidising the companies to the extent ot £300,000 for the steamers to be refrigerated and the services will start in March.
BRITAIN AMAZED. Received September 11, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 9. The South African subsidy for Italian shipping lines has amazed Britisn shipping circles. . It is supposed that the service is associated with Africa’s increased exports of wool, sheepskins and hides to France, and wool, hides, skins, meat and copper to Italy.
SERVICE AMALGAMATION. Received September 11, 8.10 a.m. BERLIN, Sept. 9. The Hamburg-Amerika and Nord-deutcher-Lloyd lines have decided to reduce expenses by using a. single organisation to deal with the Nort American services.
