STRENUOUS CAMPAIGN.

MR COATES IN SOUTH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 10. Tlie acting Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, arrived on Saturday morning to lend assistance in the Coalition campaign for the Lyttelton electorate. He had a most strenuous day, delivering four addresses, at Little River, Duvauclielle, Akaroa, and Opawa. He had a most cordial reception on the Peninsula, but his reception at Opawa, where there was a strong Labour contingent in the audience, was rather less cordial. However, Mr Coates was very little perturbed by the inter,Rectors. He argued with them effectively, and made good points out of their shouted questions. The meeting was highly satisfactory from his point of view. A vote of thanks and confidence and an amendment of thanks and no confidence were moved. .The chairman called for a show of hands and declared the motion of thanks and confidence carried.
