1914-1918.

ERECTION OF MEMORIAL. Work has commenced on the erection of the memorial columns at the entrance to that portion of the Kelvin Grove cemetery which marks the resting place of soldiers who have passed away since their return from the Great War. The memorial will take the form of two handsomely faced concrete columns, approximately 10 feet in height, flanked by artistically designed walls in concrete and pointed brickwork, which will enclose a triangular grass plot and pathway with steps leading to the entrance between the columns, which will bear thereon the simple inscription “1914-1918.” The work, which is expected to be completed towards the close of September, is being supervised and carried out wholly by members of the Palmerston North R.S.A. The cost is being borne by the association. It is intended that, upon completion of the work, an impressive dedication ceremony will be held.
