WOODVILLE, Sept. 9. The monthly meeting qf the Woodvillc County Council was held yesterday, Mr M. O. Grainger presiding. Others present were Crs. Mabcy, Morgan, Williams, Sheffield, Galloway, Peebles and Druce. Advice was received from Hon. E. A. Ransom (Minister of Lands), that, if funds permitted provision would be made on this year’s estimates for the erection of a bridge over the Raparapawai Stream, on Jackson’s Road. The fact that the council was prepared to finance the work £1 for £T was a clear indication of its urgency. The Dannevirkc County Council advised having submitted a proposal to the controlling authority in order to reach finality on the question of the allocation of heavy trallic fees: —Thu chairman, in whose hands the matter had been left, stated that there was nothing further to report. The District Highways Council advised that the following balances of authorities had been cancelled :—Borough boundary to Papatawa railway crossing (seal), £461 14s; Papatawa railway crossing to Matahiwi (seal), £69 5s 6d. The clerk said that these amounts had been saved by the engineer. who had done these two works below the estimated cost. The chairman said it was very creditable on the part o,f the engineer. The Main Highways Board forwarded authority for - maintenance on the following highways: Napier-Wellington (via Wairarapa), £999 (£3 for £1); Great-ford-Wocdvillc (cemetery gate to Gorge bridge), £45 (free grant); Greatford-Wood-villo (comity portion), £6O (£3 for £1) ; Woodville-Tarnaki, £413 (£3 for £1) ; Wood-villc-Hopelands, £291 (£3 for £1). A cheque for £383 Is for maintenance subsidy outstanding was forwarded by the Main Highwavs Board. The Treasury forwarded a cheque for £llOO 3s lid being subsidy (5s per £1) on rates. The Department of Lands and Survey advised remitianeo of thirds totalling £6O. The sum of £ll Bs. representing fines collected at the Woodvillc Magistrates’ Court, was received from the Treasury. Mr C. A. Herbert, Maharahara, applied for permission to tap the spring on‘the road by his house. -Approval was granted subject to tho engineer’s approval. The engineer {Mr W. J 1-la.wkes) reported that a washout on Saddle Road in the Woodvillc riding had been repaired. Slips had been removed on Whariti and the road surfaced. Ihe deviation on Foley’s Road had diied out sufficiently to ho conmlctcd next week. A bridge on Jackson’s Read in the Marigaatna riding had been redocked. Iho Maharahara bridge was being overhauled and strengthened in that riding.
