POWER BOARD RATING.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Last Friday evening the ratepayers of Palmerston North were addressed by city members of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board and were told that the country members of the board were going to levy a rate over the city of Palmerston North to make up a deficit in tlie board’s budget. After hearing the explanation of the board’s affairs from the city members it does undoubtedly seem inequitable and iniquitous to tax tlie city ratepayers for any such deficit and which Cr. Hodgens very aptly termed confiscation. If the board is supplying power at less than cost, surely the fairest way to make up the loss would be by raising the price of current to consumers instead of a tax on property owners. Under the circumstances I think it is now up to those country members to address a public meeting and explain tlie justification for their action. —I am, etc., TOWN AND COUNTRY RATEPAYER.
