WOODVILLE, Sept. 4.

The representative hockey match on Saturday at Woodvillo between Bush and Wairarapa teams resulted in a draw, each team scoring one goal. The teams were:—VVairarapa (dark green) : Tildcsley, , W. A. Noble., A 20-year-old youth, Mcrvin Edward Kenneth Rossiter, pleaded ■ guilty in tho Magistrate's Court this morning to being intoxicated in charge of a car at Papafawn on Friday. Mr J. Miller, S.M., imposed a fine of £ls and debarred accused from taking out a license for twelve months. Constable Skinner said that accused was driving a small car toward Dannovirko, at about 6.30 p.m. on Friday. When nearly opposirc the station, a contractor, Thomas Wass, of Palmerston North, who was driving toward Woodvillo, saw the car approaching, and drew well over to tho left side of the road. A collision occurred, accused tearing the front wheel from tho ear and the vehicle going over the bank. The lorry was damaged to tho extent of £l2. Witness was summoned to the scene of tho accident and was convinced that accused was intoxicated, his finding being confirmed by Dr Mules. Accused had no previous conviction. Mr Lyon, who appeared for accused, said tho latter was 20 years of age, and was one of a family of ten. He had been foolish and was led into having a few drinks in Palmerston North. His condition could not have been apparent at the time, as his mother was in the car and would not have let him drive had she known his condition. Accused had no occupation and counsel asked for leniency on account of his youth. Tho car belonged to accused’s father. The Magistrate said that tho main fact about such cases as this was that the driver was intoxicated and unable to drive his car. The public must be protected, and such drivers wore a menace to tho travelling public. Ho could not look upon the case with leniency. A fine of £ls was imposed, with costs, accused being allowed a month to pay. His license was cancelled for 12 months. Miss Burnett (Nelson) is the guest of Dr and Mrs P. 11. Mules, of Woodvillo. Word has been received by the local secretary of tho Trinity College of Music (London) that Miss Isabelle Graham,' pupil of Mrs P. 11.
