OBITUARY.

MR A. M. McNICOL. A Press Association message from Dannevirke states that the death occurred with tragic suddeness this morning at his home, from heart failure, of Mr Archibald M. McNicol, managing-editor of the Dannevirke Evening News for many years. Mr McNicol played a prominent part in town and district affairs over the last 25 years and was universally respected. He leaves a widow and three daughters. Born at Waihola (Otago) in 187 S, Mr McNicol was the son of Rev. John McNicol. In 1911 he married Miss Daisy Patterson. In the course of a lengthy journalistic career he was mining reporter on the staff of the Otago Daily Times and chief reporter on the Napier Telegraph, and became manag-ing-editor of the Dannevirke News in 1909. He was a director of the United Press Association and a member of the council of tile New Zealand branch of the Empire Press Union. He was a New Zealand delegate to the Imperial Press Conference in London in 1930. The late Mr McNicol was M.P. for Pahiatua from 1919 to 1922, when lie was defeated by Hon. E. A. Ransom. Ho was a member of the Dannevirke High School Board of Governors and chairman of the Repatriation Committee. He took a keen interest in bowling and was a member of the Dannevirke Club. He bad participated in several tournaments in Palmerston North and last year competed in Dixon Cup matches with the Palmerston North Club.
