MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. OFFICERS FOR THE YEAR. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu executive, which was followed by the annual meeting, of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held a.t Levin on Saturday, when the president, Mr J. A. Mc'Leavey, was in the chair. Also present were Messrs B. G. Gower, R. Bishop, J. T. Kent, J. Hodgson, H. Denton, L. H. Best, L. Ballinger, G. Greer, H. MeLeavey, R. Craig A. G. Dear, J. Boyce, H. Bowling, H. J. Richards, C. P. Jensen and J. D. Avery; also Messrs J. L. Nash and S. Sloan as delegates from the Linton and Levin branches respectively. The Dominion secretary wrote enquiring the date of the provincial conference as Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., the president, was desirous of attending.—The writer is to be advised that the meeting will be held at Masterton on May 30 and 31. The Massey Agricultural College wrote advising that the annual meeting of sheep breeders would be held at the college this month.—Received. Accounts amounting to £27 15s were passed for payment. The president reported on the Dominion executive committee which had dealt fully with the remits sent forward from this district. All the remits, explained the sp'eakcr, had been favourably considered, and referred to the respective Dominion committees for action. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting was then proceeded with, the president reviewing the activities of the executive committee during the year and thanking the members for their co-operation and j

support. A statement of accounts was submitted which showed the finances to be in a satisfactory position. Several resignations had bsen received during the year, which had reduced the income from that source, explained the secretary, Mr Bv.dden. The election of officers resulted : President, Mr J. A. D. Avery. L. H. Best, L. F. Ballinger, H. Bowling, R. Craig, R. Bishop, G. Greer and C. P. Jensen; auditor, Mr W. Hunter (re-elected). A dairy committee consisting of Messrs J. Boyce, A. G. Dear and C. P. Jensen was set up to confer with a similar committee from the Dairy Farmers' Union on matters pertaining to the industry. A letter was received from the Kelvin Grove School Committee seeking a subsidv towards a prize for the collection of white butterflies.—The matter was referred to the advisory committee for its consideration It-was decided to forward the following remits from branches to the mterprovincial conference to bo held this month. ■■-. •..-, . . . Levin: That in tlie opinion of this branch the time has arrived when the Government should institute some system that will relieve the present financial stringency and the Government be asked to bring about a system of controlled internal monetary inflation as up to the present it would appear that the Government's efforts have been nullified bv the continued downward trend of all commodity prices. Te Horo: ThatM;he rental on rural telephones be reduced. Ohau : That the Government be urged to consider a reduction in salaries of all its higher paid servants, including Judges of the Supreme Court. Ohau: That the New Zealand Farmers' Union vote a sum of money to explore avenues of trade with Eastern countries. . Shannon: That the. Shannon branch draws the attention of all electric power boards to the urgent necessity of reviewing the whole of their working costs with a view to bringing day costs with a view to bringing every item of expenditure into hhe with present day values; that power, lighting and water heating charges be reduced for the coming season to the smallest amount possible consistent with sound business. Waikanae: That the Government be requested to conduct State lotteries, the profits to be devoted to the upkeep of hospital and charitable aid hoards, thereby reducing the levies on local bodies. Ohau: That in the event of a mortgagor not being able to meet his interest and failing to come to an agreement for reduction with the mortgagee, before the mortgagee can gain possession he must pay the mortgagor current value for improvements effected by the latter, and once the mortgagee gains possession he shall have no further claim on the mortgagor.
