ASSOCIATION CODE
MATCHES IN THE IMANA 1 WATU. Playing under wintry conditions at North Street Park on Saturday afternoon, St. Andrew’s and Athletic set the ball rolling so far as the senior Association football competition was concerned, when a willing, match resulted in a draw—4 goals each. For a match early in the season there was a good proportion of sparkling play and some pretty passing moves when the forwards co-ordinated to effect. Both teams were fielding new players, however, and it was obvious that they still bad to become accustomed to their team mates and there were several occasions when possible chances to send the ball home were not taken. However, there was some promising material on the field. At half-time the score stood at a draw, 2 all, and from the recommencement Athletic gave a vigorous display to obtain a two-goal lead a quarter of an hour before the end. St. Andrew’s back line then combined nicely and kept their forwards in an invading position to harass the Athletic defence and penetrate twice. The final few minutes were particularly willing, but both goals remained intact. Watt scored twice and Rainford and Cummings once for Athletic. McKenzie secured three of St. Andrew’s goals and Penney the othor. Mr H. E. Facer refereed. THE JUNIOR GRADES.
