WHAKARONGO
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONGO, May 6.
The Wliakarongo annual school dance was held in tho hall on Friday evening and was most enjoyable. Although it was a wet night the hall was filled to tho utmost and old and young alike enjoyed themselves immensely. Iho hall was prettily decorated with streamers and with their “butterfly” 'dresses the children looked very gay. Much credit is due to tho head teacher, Mrs Eggers, and the relieving pupil teacher. Miss Quivke, for tho way in which they worked and coached tho children to make the evening a success. Mr Howatt, chairman of the School Coinmittco, carried out the duties of M.C. The committee ably assisted in connection with tho dance. For the most part Mrs Eggers rendered tho music for tho children, ably assisted by Miss Quirke and Miss O’Brien. The following was the programme carried out: Polka, Cobbler’s Dance, Rufty Tufty, “Bridge of Avignon,’’ Kneeling Salaam,, Bisket Basket, “With My Foot I’m Stamping, Grand March, Mountain March, Sleeping Beauty, ‘‘l See You,” and “Cobbler Mend My Shoe,” Pendulum Swing, “Oats and Beans,” and “Young Maid,” Skipping Dance, “Come Lasses and Lads,” “Sweet Kate,” Reels, Sitting Salaam, Sellingers Round. Much amusement was caused by two local residents masquerading. A splendid suppor provided by the ladies ot the district was handed round and was much appreciated, especially by tho children.
