FEILDING.
PRIMARY. SCHOOL TENNIS. A team of girls from the Taonui School visited the Lytton Street School on Monday afternoon and in a tennis match with the local girls were beaten by 5 sets (33 games) to 4 sets (36 games). In the following details Lytton Street players are mentioned first:— Singles.—Elaine Short lost to Jane McLeod I—6, Peggy Baker lost to Margaret Cheetham I—6, Muriel Edgley beat Margaret McLeod (>—l, Hilda Tingey lost to Dell Adsett o—6, Margaret Parkes beat Nocline Anson 6—4, Ngaire Hobday beat Ngaire Cheetham 6—5.
Doubles!—Elaine Short and Peggy Baker lost to Jane McLeod and Margaret Cheetham I—6,1 —6, Muriel Edgley and Ngaire Hobday beat Dell Adsett and Noma Noble 6—2, Hilda Tingey and Margaret Parkes beat Noeline Anson and Margaret McLeod 6—o. CRICKET. The management committee of the Feilding Cricket Association met last evening, Mr E. H. Lange presiding. . The matches for Easter were discussed and it was decided not to play on Good Friday, the match with the Wellington junior team to commence on Easter Saturday.
The following team was selected to meet Wellington:—Still (captain), Dewo, Barltrop, Dunn, Whitehead (2), Mitchell, Waldin, Fitzpatrick, Laing and Brock. Emergencies, L. Penney and M. Eade. Patrick, Laing, Penney, Brock. Emergencies, E. Huston and Burgess. Tho president and tho secretary, Mr T. Donaldson, were appointed to arrange for an evening sooial, during which the season’s trophies would bo presented.
Play is to commence on Saturday morning at such time as the captains shall arrange, but players are requested to be on the ground at 10 a.m. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., presided at yesterday’s sitting of the Feilding Magistrate’s Court. Win. Grant and Roy Benge were each fined £1 and costs for fighting outside the Parish Hall on St. Patrick’s night. James Gall'and was fined 20s and costs 19s 6d for failing to give way to traffio approaching on his right when driving a motor car on the Palmerston North-Wanganui highway. For driving a motor cycle without taking out a driver’s license, Joseph Neame was fined 30s and costs 15s.
Charged with exposing lico-infested sheep for sale, Francis L. Kerr and Peter McVerry were fined £2 and £4 respectively. The case in which James Paterson Shortall, of Colyton, who was charged with alleged negligent driving of a car, and also with failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right, and Robert Neil Bowles, also charged with alleged negligent driving of a car, was continued. After hearing lengthy evidence from both parties. the Magistrate reserved his decision. Sergeant Angland conducted the prosecution, Mr D. C. Cullinane appeared for defendn.nt Shortall and Mr J. Graham for defendant Bowles.
