Blackbourn, H. Byers, P. T. Robinson, D. Wilton, F. McLachlan, C. S. Lawson, N. J. Dixon and R. L. C. Aitchison.

Before commencing the business of the evening, the president extended a welcome to the delegates from the various clubs and outlined the general programme for the year. It was the duty of the association, said Mr Muson, to consider not only the local interests of hockey, but to work tor the general progress of the game. They liad to consider what would probably be their expenses for the year so as to fix the levy on the clubs. The various teams had to be graded into sections, and it had to be decided whether a challenge should be entered for the New Zealand Shield and how the expenses in connection therewith could be met. Some plan for fostering interest in hockey in the schools had also to be formulated. The material in the schools was the foundation of -future hockey, and, with proper attention to the game, their senior teams in times to come would be assured. Another matter requiring the attention of the new executive was the question of insurance of players. The suggestions and recommendations passed at the annual meeting covered practically the entire year’s work, so that a lot of meetings would not bo necessary. A letter was received from Mr A. E. Mansiord regretting that on account of his connection with the relief of unemployment he would be unable to accept the position of vice-pre-sident of the association, but that in an unofficial capacity be would be glad to render any assistance he could. The P.D.C. Club forwarded the following names as officials of their club: —President, Mr J. Wallace; vice-presidents, Messrs M. N. Wallace, M. A. Eliott, H. E. Pacey and Dr. E. C. Barnett; club captain, Mr It. A. Brace; delegates to M.H.A., Messrs W. T. Duckworth and N. J. Dixon; delegate to executive, Mr Dixon; treasurer, Mr A. H. Ward; secretary, MrM. A. Byers. An invitation was received from the Manawatu Ladies’ Hockey Association to attend their annual general meeting. The City Council wrote granting the association the use of two playing, areas on the outside ground at the Sportsground and one area at Milverton 1 ark at a. rental of £2 10s per playing area. It was regretted that as the Terrace End Park required topdressing it would not be available .for use this season. —It was decided to accept the council’s terms. A letter was received from the New Zealand Hockey Association congratulating the Manawatu Association on its very successful season and trusting that their enterprise would meet with further success.

The following sub-committees were elected: Fixtures and grounds, Messrs Blackbourn, Dixon and Lawson; postponement, Messrs M Llton, Blackbourn and Byers; entertainment, Messrs Robinson, Lawson and Byers; finance and emergency, Messrs Wilson, Aitchison and Fitzgerald. After a discussion three selectors were appointed —Messrs Aitchison, McLachlan and Blackbourn. Mr h. Cousins was appointed field trainer and Mr F. Lewis physical trainer. The question of finance was discussed fully, the chairman explaining that at least £3O would be required. Various suggestions were then put forward, a scheme proposed by Mr Aitchison providing lor £sl 13s, one by Mr Wilson for £3B 11s and one by Mr Fitzgerald for £44 10s. Several minor details were provided for, the final decisions being:- —Affiliation fee, £1 Is per club; entrance fee to competition, £2 2s for, first team and £1 Is for other teams; ground fee, £1 Is for first team and 10s 6d for other teams; capitation lee, £1 2s per playing team; the total return being estimated at £45 2s Od. It was decided that June 30 be fixed for the pay-, ment of fees, those outstanding at that date to be subject to a 10 per cent, penalty. Applications from the Broadway and Palmerston North clubs for practice grounds were granted, the former to use the Spoitsground and the latter Milverton Park. Permission was also granted these clubs for the use of the grounds on April 20, when the Palmerston North Club will play a match with P.D.C. and the Broadway Club will play two visiting teams. In reply to the Palmerston North Club’s suggestion that - the association regulate Sunday hockey practice, Mr Wilson stated that the association had no power to deal with the matter. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Hockey Association recommending the lifting of a certain player’s suspension. Two recommendations were received from the Manawatu Referees’ Association, suggesting that the Hockey Association refuse to authorise or control any Sunday games on the association’s grounds, and that a grant of £4 4s be made to the Referees’ Association. —It was decided to forward the £4 4s as requested. Notification was received from the New Zealand Hockey Association that their annual meeting would be held on April 26. It was decided to leave the question of supporting the motions to be put at' the meeting to the discretion of the Manawatu delegate.

It was decided that, as far as possible, no representative matches be played during the course of the championship matches. The meeting recommended that the selectors do not include in the representative team members who do not practise regularly. It was decided in tire interests of club and Manawatu hockey that the Association hand back the AVinter Shield to the controlling body (the Wanganui Association). After the completion of the first round of the championship a sealed handicap competition is to be commenced, and the representative games are to be played in conjunction with it. On the motion of Mr AA’ilson, it was decided to challenge for the New Zealand Shield later in the season should the circumstances be favourable. A general meeting of all clubs is to be held after the first club match, to devise means of raising funds to meet the expenses in connection therewith. Mr AVilson moved that a £IOO school hockey trust fund be established in perpetuity, the interest therefrom to be applied to the encouragement of hockey in the schools. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr AVilson thought that if a start were made immediately school hockey would be firmly established by 1935. The meeting decided to award to representative players a distinctive badge in recognition of their merit. The ■ secretary was authorised to secure a record book in which to keep a proper account of the history of hockey in the Manawatu. Mr AA’ilson was designated as keeper of the book for 1933.

The Hannevirke Association intimated that they intended holding an eleven-aside tournament on April 19. A cup had been donated by the late Mr Ji. H. Fraser for this competition. The

Manawatu Association were invited to j send teams to compete. The P.D.C. Club Were allotted] maroon as their colour. A motion was ■ passed that any player not wearing Ins proper club jersey bo fined Is. It was decided to write to the Referees’ Association asking them to ] enforce rigidly discipline on the field in regard to language. Accounts amounting to £1 2s were passed for payment.
