INTERMEDIATE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 26. The New Zealand intermediate junior swimming championships opened at the municipal baths this aiternoon, and the official opening was held at night, when a thousand people were present. In the competition for tlie war memorial shield Auckland gained three points and Manawatu one. Several exhibitions were given. There were several fine performances, but no records were broken. Results:— 100 Yards Junior Girls.—Johnson (Auckland), 1; Robertson (West Coast), 2; Gillies (Otago), 3. Time, lmin 13 4-ssec. 220 Yards Intermediate Girls’ Freestyle.—First heat:' Rainey (Auckland), 1; Walls (West Coast), 2; Low (Canterbury), 3. Time, 2min 50sec. Second heat: B. Sporle (Manawatu), 1; McGrath (Southland), 2; Morris (Canterbury), 3. Time, 3min 3 3-ssec. Final; Rainey, 1 ; Walls and Sporle, equal, 2. Time, 2min 58sec.
